What also fuels the so-called myth is the endless carping women do about men not asking for directions. Well of course we don't ask for directions, because we'd rather read the map. If one gets lost while using a map, it's as likely he'll get lost trying to follow some clerk's directions. Women, however, tend to be more verbal, as any husband will tell you while rolling his eyes. To them, spoken directions mean more than what's on a map. > "Spatial skill is the ability to assess and orientate shapes and > spaces. Map reading and parking are spatial skills which men often say > women lack. Women tend to disagree. " > > Of course they disagree. They don't know any better. Most men think > they can communicate. Women know they can't. I think we can communicate, just not in the way they communicate. Have you ever had an argument with a woman at the office? Note how cumbersome her language is, and how touchy-feely. Note how long it takes. "You and I have to talk, because I feel that we are having a problem, and it's not being resolved as it should be." Note the excessive use of present perfect tense when it isn't needed. A man would translate the above statement thusly. "This can't continue. We must resolve it." That is effective communication, but women don't see it that way. There must be a certain number of words, or a given time of inane chatter, before they consider it communcation. They also want the communcation to be complicated, even if the issue is not. > Women simply don't realise how crap they are at many of the > things men excel at, because men don't get laid if they beat up > on women. But we can be sued. We often hesitate to stand up to women, because we get inundated by the excessive chatter I describe above. We also have an unfortunate tendency to let women beat up on us. For instance, you'll find study after study showing that women are better at this or that, and the data that underlies that finding is normally weak. Yet not enough men complain about it, but when a man does it, as Dr. Summers, it lets all hell loose. I'm not saying we should all go crazy if someone does a study that truly shows women are better at something. But when someone comes out and says that men are natural-born batterers, based on insufficient evidence, we should demand that they either prove it or renounce it.
