She knows there are, but as Winston Smith convinced himself that two
plus two is five, so can Dr. Strangebroad convince herself that there
are no non-physical differences between men and women.

If you're her, you can't do it that way, so the question is whom you
have to sue to get a professorship, or threaten to sue.  Big Mother
monitors her department to keep watch on the percentage of tenured
professors that are women.  If that percentage gets too low, then Big
Mother sends her agents to have a chat, and the threat of a lawsuit is
palpable, if not actually stated.  Hence, people who aren't especially
qualified may find themselves with professorships.  Dr. Whatserface is
certainly an example.  A scientists who gets nauseated when hearing
data that she doesn't like isn't really a scientist.  She's an
activist.

This is her idea of achievement.  Neither Condalezza Rice, Margaret
Thatcher, nor other achieving women are heroes, if they reach top
positions based on their own merit.  This is why NOW would never hail
Dr. Rice as the first black female Secretary of State (although a NOW
lackey would call her a liar during confirmation hearings).  One is
only a hero if she gets to the top using lawsuits and loud-mouthed
activism to overcome an imaginary patriarchy.  IOW, the feminist
applauds women who bully their way up, not women who earn their way up.

She does look stupid, and there is evidence to indicate that she is
stupid.  Consider someone who is not a biology professor.  He'll know
that boys are more likely than girls to become scientists and
engineers.  He'll know that the best technical types are normally men.
He'll also know that no rule is absolute, and that there will be some
women who are gifted at science and math.  This is common sense, unless
you're Nancy Hopkins.

Consider also that she got where she is through bullying, which is a
tactic easily employed by smart people or stupid people.
