      Hi Robert,
        Thanks for your views Bob, you made some very good points.  But
while I disagreed with one or two, I realized that it would also depend on
the size of boat you were sailing/living on.  Since you had a Cape Dory 36,
an aft cockpit would make perfect sense.  Anything much bigger than
36'-40', you'd have extra crew (hopefully) onboard for offshore sailing to
deal with the bow/stern chores.  I suppose each have their own specific
advantages and disadvantages, but on a 36', I think I too would definitely
prefer an aft cockpit - it can also be a bonus to have an uninterupted
deck - and if it was a Cape Dory, I'd be happy wherever the cockpit was :^).
