I remember back in the 90s, when I had the comfuser store and electronic repair
shop hearing a news report about Japanese workers organised and demonstrating
against Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi et al outsourcing things to Korea. I looked
at over at one of my techs and remarked, "Innit amazing? What goes around comes
around!"

I never understood why no one ever did any major outsourcing to Russia - after
the walls came down there was a pretty good sized, somewhat technically trained
work force available and needing work ... as opposed to someplace where they
literally had to train workers away from making mud-bricks and herding water
buffalo. I am fairly sure that there must have been insurmountable problems of
some kind.

In my experience money and profits have no politics. So it must have been some
obstacle to potential profits.
