Uh because some of the very important ones ARE! Try rm filename on knoppix, it'll ask "are you sure you want to delete this file? y/n" IOW's rm -i in Slackware. Not knowing this one little alias for rm in Knoppix wiped out my OS one time transitioning form one to another. Unlike you I do NOT offer advice not knowing what I'm talking about such as your catostrophic advice as to removing the video card and rebooting linux Slackware before you admiitted to Maurice you were actually trying it for the first time. Then you berated me for not being able to follow the advice, "remove video card" "reboot" as to complex for me to understand. WC> You? WC> Not so much. RC> I never claimed to be a teacher, nor do I require groupies. I see you've a couple of Chihuahuas' nipping around your heels. THAT caused issues. Serious and catastrophic issues. System disabling issues. In fact the worst issues I've EVER faced in any instance with Linux Slackware. RC> Troubleshooting 101: RC> * What happened or what were you doing when the problem started? RC> * Hardware added or removed? RC> * Software added or removed? RC> * Setting added, removed or altered? Well let's just agree I will not be taking any of your advice in future. Someoine went to bat for you private email that you were well intentioned but underinformed. I don't know which side of that equation to fall on. Demonstrably you enjoy kicking a man when he's down. Stroked as I was formerly. RC> One goes back to such a point, reverses the possible action, even if RC> only temporary, to see if that was the cause of the issue. Yada, yada, yada, yip, yip, yip. I bought TWO systems today. An Intel dual core a E-machine that has the identical motherboard as does the Gateway, INTEL quality. The other a dual core AMD 64 white box. $42.78 for the two of them. Ray had to prioritize his clients in front of his rehabing these systems for sale at $175 each as he currently too busy. WC> Funny guy, you offered that advice before you admitted you'd even WC> installed Slack for the first time months later. As above, obviously it did NOT howver equally as obviously you're interpratation of that differed from reality. Oh yeah, the Intel and White box, both 64 bit and with three optical drives between them, $53 dollars. They ALL boot, beyond that tomorrow awaits complete review. Plently of keyboards and monitors, I just am two mice short of that which is required to fire them all up at once. I do not believe I'll be upgrading next month, unless I do just for yucks and if I decide to turn it around for $450 with Phoenix loaded. RC> That advice applies, whether the OS was Linux, Windows or otherwise.. RC> I installed Slack on a spare box just to see why you were talking it up RC> as if it is the hardest thing to do, which it isnt. WC> IOW's you had no idea what you were talking about. RC> Based on your complaint, I suggested a very logical troubleshooting RC> step. Which bit me in the a** just as I said it would but out of arrogance and figuring I could fix that fiasco easily I was in for a bit of an unfortunate surprise in that regard. WC> Slackware isn't for you. RC> There isnt any Linux distro not for me. WC> Stick with Ubuntu or Phoenix, they're oversimplified. RC> Since you have run neither, you dont know that.. RC> Only thing you need to know is their ISO's come with a very workable RC> linux setup, similiar to how knoppix did things.. Knoppix looked too much like WinBlows and basically IMO sucked unless you're not serious about your Linux. I did enjoy the arcade game Galaga however that's the limit. RC> There is not a thing you cannot do from the command line with them that RC> you do from slack. WC> I've no use for either. RC> Ignorance is bliss. I'm glad you're having a pleasant day. ...
