Subject: [drakelist] B-line knob Inserts
Fellow Drakesters:
Wll it CAN be done but takes a bit of work. I have a friend - not sure he
is on the reflector - that re-did a B-line with his own "inserts". They
look terrific!
You need to carefully pry out the old one and discard. On a lathe (it's
easier) turn out a new disk but out of material about 3/16" thick. Polish
one side to match the originals. Put the "insertless" knob in
the lathe and
turn out the insert depth slightly so the new knob protrudes the correct
amount when placed in the hole. Once you have the depth correct, you can
round off the outer edge of the insert very slightly to mimic the rolled
edge of the original. Glue in place with contact cement. Once done, you
cannot tell it from an original.
Good luck!
