Hello WAYNE! 03 May 10 00:56, you wrote to me: RC>> Wayne seems to think the command lines on the x/k/u-buntu RC>> versions are somehow less capable. WC> Really? WC> I hadn't known I'd ever had Linux experience prior to Knoppix 3.4 - WC> 4.0 for two months and then Slackware. What would have ever made you think the commandlines of one distribution is different from another, especially with the most popular shell in use, ie BASH? WC> You? WC> Not so much. I never claimed to be a teacher, nor do I require groupies. WC> I mean claiming I couldn't follow your directions to remove WC> the video card and reboot which I'd presumed would fry the software WC> and did in fact worse than anything I'd previously experienced. I never claimed you couldnt do that, I merely suggested that you remove the last known common denominator to check and see if that was or was not the cause of the issue. Then you went on a three week tangent blaming me for your decision to have freely declined or accepted that suggestion.. Which the suggestion wasnt malicious, its a classic troubleshooting technique, you find out the point an issue started, an eliminate possible causes.. You being the self-professed dialectic critical thinker, had to have agreed with the suggestion, else you would not have tried it. Troubleshooting 101: * What happened or what were you doing when the problem started? * Hardware added or removed? * Software added or removed? * Setting added, removed or altered? One goes back to such a point, reverses the possible action, even if only temporary, to see if that was the cause of the issue. WC> Funny guy, you offered that advice before you admitted you'd even WC> installed Slack for the first time months later. That advice applies, whether the OS was Linux, Windows or otherwise.. I installed Slack on a spare box just to see why you were talking it up as if it is the hardest thing to do, which it isnt. WC> IOW's you had no idea what you were talking about. Based on your complaint, I suggested a very logical troubleshooting step. WC> Slackware isn't for you. There isnt any Linux distro not for me. WC> Stick with Ubuntu or Phoenix, they're oversimplified. Since you have run neither, you dont know that.. Only thing you need to know is their ISO's come with a very workable linux setup, similiar to how knoppix did things.. There is not a thing you cannot do from the command line with them that you do from slack. WC> I've no use for either.
