  There is a perhaps apocryphal story about how, one time,
Fleming was being given a tour of a nice new laboratory.  Everything
was spotless and as antiseptic as could be to avoid contamination. 
As one point the guide said to Fleming, "Just imagine what you could
have discovered in such a laboratory!"  To which Fleming muttered,
"Not penicillin."
