Hi Mike,
Just wanted to jump in here for a second to say that you're correct
if you're speaking about the effects of corrosion, etc on O/B engines
in the southern portion of Florida, however.....I made the move from
the southern portion of NJ (Delaware Bay) to the Tampa Bay area about
20 years ago and was quite surprised. This area (Tampa Bay) has about
5 percent of the corrosion problems that exist in Delaware Bay, and
many of the engines that I've worked on when they were new (1977/78)
are still in fairly good condition, and running strong. The engines
that have ended up in the truck you mentioned were a result of owner
neglect or patch work mechanics, etc. I have encountered a few engines
that were brought up from Key Largo that, as you say, were so far
gone from the effects of salt water that I wouldn't bother reaching
for a wrench.
