He ignores one piece of history though. While DRM sunk DAT tape for media,
it survived quite well for data. Today we are trading video recordings over
the file share networks in data format, that change has already happened
and it's really no problem to store these files on a data format DVD.
So the real question is how will BlueRay and HD-DVD DRM affect the data
format versions of those media and who will capture the data market first.
That's going to be the deciding factor in this particular race.
There is one question though, will vista allow data format HD-DVD's to hold
video files? I'm guessing that Microsoft is going to be under some sort of
pressure should data format dvd players start to become popular.
