From: Ad http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2061482,00.asp Entertaining read. Having just done a load of JSF/EJB3/MySQL stuff I think that finally J2EE is worth the effort & that with the Sun GPL'ing the JDK etc that we're going to see a lot more LJAM (Linux, Java,Apache, MySQL) esp given how much fundamental Java code is apache (tomcat, geronimo, harmony, xerces, xalan, axis etc.etc.etc.etc.) So.....given IBM want to flog std websphere as their main AppServer & given both JBOSS & Geronimo have a desire to reach from bottom to top....what happens as Geronimo raches into std Websphere areas e.g. wrt clustering, scalability etc? We looked at 3 OSS AS'es for our bit of the NHS (JBOSS, Glassfish & Geronimo) & ended up with JBOSS simply because we felt that we had people who already had experience with it. However all three were impressive to the degree that left me wondering wrt the Webspheres & Weblogics of the world. It will be interesting to see which LJAM stacks are bundled as std with which Linux distros once the JDK etc are free. One feels sure that Red Hat will bundle JBOSS but beyond that the market is wide open. Interesting times.
