if
it has some of the scuzziest bars I've ever seen next to some of the
nicest
resturants or art galleries.
We've got them booked for a 30 minute horse-drawn (mule-drawn actually
because they handle the heat/humidity better) carriage ride, adn the
hotel
is right in the heart of the FQ... so they'll get a good look around
RJ>Might be the one that I stayed at then. Quite nice. Don't
RJ>remember the name but I would probably recognize it.
> 6) Have a meal in one of the GOOD resturants. No place like it. I've
eaten in a number of places with food as good or better but New Orleans
style is in the service and ambiance and there's no place like it. At
least
not in the US.
Reservations have been made at Commander's Palace! There was only one
night
in the week they'll be there that had an opening for a reservation! I
naturally snatched it up. :) They've won the James Beard Lifetime Award of
Excellence, and last year "The Best Restaurant in the US" from Food &
Wine.
Emeril Legasse got his start there, as did Paul Prudhomme and several
others. Their prices are astonishingly reasonable considering their
stature,
and their menu is *awesome* When I called, the reservationist asked if it
was for a special occassion -- I told them the deal. Get this... they
arranged it so that my parents won't get the bill. They will charge my
card.
In lieu of the bill they'll present my parents with an *engraved* card
with
a msg from me and Kevin. They'll have fresh flowers at the table, their
dessert plate will have happy anniversary piped on the rim and come with a
candle... and there was no charge for any of that. She read everything
back
to me *twice*, said that they would call *me* to confirm the reservation
closer to the time, and well, I could not have been more impressed :)))
It's
going to be AWESOME! We're thinking of setting a couple reservations at
the
hotel restaurant as well, but otherwise the restaurants are up to them --
mom and dad are "fine diners" from way back so they don't need any
guidance
there. They could wash up on a desert island and quickly find the best
tidal
pools
RJ>Now that is cool!
Hope it is as great a trip as planned!
