No, they're not free.  They are supported by billions of business computers
running Windows.  Many seem to neglect that ArcaOS is very much a niche OS. R&D
doesn't come for free and nor does the amazingly complicated process of porting
*NIX applications over to ArcaOS.

With a subscription, you are guarenteeing (sp) support for an OS that has
1/10000th of the userbase that Windows has...

...but remember, today's Windows wouldn't exist without OS/2.
