subject: Max linux vs windows

RdL> Back in June or July I tried the linux port

RdL> - On my windows computer each node runs in a seperate
RdL> window. I can easily see who's doing what. If someone

RdL> I can take over the keyboard and control the bbs etc..
RdL> On linux, it seems that maximus runs as as a hidden

RdL> I'll be honest, I didn't spend much time playing with
RdL> Maximus for linux and nor am I a linux expert.

You are welcome to help us get Maximus fully ported to Linux. There are a
number of items still needing to be worked on....

RdL> - Are you preserving modem support? It would be
RdL> nice... eventually I'd like to get a dialup node if
RdL> users say they'd use it.

Modem support is what Wes was working on before real life (work and family
issues) got in the way.....

RdL> BTW can someone tell me why when I use the win32
RdL> version of Maximus 3.1, doors don't work? I've noticed
RdL> that it doesn't output the right COM port to the
RdL> dropfile .. but I've tried hardcoding the proper com
RdL> port into the doorsys.mec and doors still wouldn't
RdL> work. That's why I'm using the DOS maximus on windows.

It's been a while since I've seen the documentation on this issue.
Basically, if you are running COMMAND.COM to run a DOS door from the Win32
version of Maximus, you can get screwed with DTR being dropped by
COMMAND.COM on initialization, which can hang up the phone....

As to port numbers, I believe the Win32 version is like the OS/2 version,
and passes a handle instead of a comm port number, while the DOS version
passes a comm port number. One way around this is to tie your task number
to your port number, and then use the task number to determine port number.
That's one work around for this in some situations.

WARNING: I do not use the Win32 version of Maximus. I runn Maximus/2
under OS/2, and am helping get Maximus running under Linux when time
permits.

Take care.....
