I think the Republicans got too complacent and thought they would be in
charge forever.  The Foley thing was the last straw, how could they imagine
it wouldn't come out one day?  This was a good wakeup call.  The Dems can't
really do as much damage as they'd like given the respective numbers, but
if the Republicans don't get their act together 2008 could be a different
story.

The one advantage of aging is it takes most of one's energy to keep doing
one's own life, so politics is one of the things one cuts down the amount
of energy spent on.   (Sorry for the ungainly syntax.)
