Sad, but I don't have much time and patience any more to spend nights and days
tweaking software and trying to squeeze a little bit more from machine's heart
and brain. But I remember how entertaining that was... and I think, it still
is. And I'm having shivers every time I enter a command into console and get a
response while listening chiptune music. That's exactly why I find FidoNet
attractive -- it is sooooo old school. (%

Whoa! That's too hardcore for me. (:
I don't really know how this is even possible. I alwasy thought that you should
have mailer, tosser and reader to be a part of the net. Strictly saying, reader
is not really needed, but I can't imagine reading conferences any other way.
I've learned to be lazy and stupid in last 10 years with all these package
management systems and software repositories. Today you don't have to
understand the basics of computer operation and dig through tons of
configuration files to make something work. Although I always saw some kind of
romance and maybe magic in doing this. It is very satisfying to build something
from source code, spend time configuring it, and see it comes alive. (:
