Ok, now the bottom line is WHAT is the terminal voltage of the battery pack 
after a sustained recharge?  THAT is the question......

But......whatever voltage comes out of that 9v adapter could well fall below 
tbe minimum trickle threshold, and if it does, then the cells will be 
undercharged.  9v at 100-ma seems kinda low to me.
