>>> Dennis Menard on Quebec
DM> We can grow big cabbages ... and other vegetables ... but not in
DM> winter and the average home may have a garden, but isn't a farm. :)
DM> Caribou? Sure, i one's a hunter. Fresh fruit ain't cheap. We have
DM> some of the highest food prices in the whole country.
Yes, and cabbage keeps well. How about root vegetables? Is it possible to
grow lots of sunflower seeds or other nuts? Otherwise caribou with
intestinal contents for greens. Whoops, I suppose that's just a native
survival technique disdained by modern folks. BTW, what have the natives
call Canadians? We've been call fork tongue palefaces.
DM> morning, New Year's Day, it's -34 C, and dropping, although we're told
DM> to expect it to warm up by the weekend ... and that's tomorrow! :)
DM> It's exhilarating weather for cross-country skiing and ski-dooing and
DM> winter camping
Today is our first snow, a wet sloppy snow less than an inch so far early
this evening.
DM> knew it was cold then because, your lashes would freeze together when
DM> you blinked, the hairs in your nose would accumu- late ice until you
DM> were forced to breathe via your mouth, you could not bend your fingers
DM> because your gloves were as flexible as iron, brushing against spruce
DM> branches would cause them to break off with a report like a rifle ...
DM> and so on. After a "very brief" respite, the temp has dipped down to
DM> -41 C. Brr ...
Err, no thanks, the most I ever seen is 8 F.
www.amnesty.org has lots to say about USA and even some about Canada.
... The double standard: are not two better than one?
