subject: Scope mounting help pleas

Hey guys I haven't posted for a very long time, but I lurk and shoot all
the time. I just recently bought a used Beeman 68R scope for my Theoben
rammed R-1, and I have two questions. I had a 50R scope on it for some 6K
rounds with narry a problem, but the 68R broke it's reticle in ~200 rounds.
The repair person says this is quite common with these scopes.
My first question is should I save this scope for a PCP and get a Trophy or
do you think now that it has fresh reticle wires it should last a long
time?
My second question is I see I began to pinch the scope tube a little bit
from my first mounting of it (the second most common reason they are sent
in for repair she says) and I never pinched the tube on the 50R, and even
had it cranked down pretty tight. I had the 68R tightened firmly, yet it
still slid through the Sports Match mounts (the ones with wide clamps and
four little allen bolts). I see now I can't tighten it enough to prevent
it from slipping through the mounts, or I'll certainly tweak the tube, so
my question is how should I prepare the inner surface of the mount rings to
prevent the slippage? I'd thought to use like 'Tuck carpet tape' which is
an aggressive double sided sticky tape, but please don't let me bias your
responses.
Thank you,
M.
