I've never done .mov to .avi but going from .mkv to .avi there is zero loss
in resolution (it will easily take the old resolution and frame rate and
hold them for the re-encode).

The H.264 stuff is still problematic, I've converted a few but mostly they
cause the program to crash. It is the best at converting these though as
I've not be able to find anything else that works on as many.

I've been using it to convert the 720p mkv files to avi format. That's my
main use because currently the linktheater won't play the mkv files.
However last night I downloaded a new firmware for the linktheater so that
may change (I don't know if they included mkv support or not but they added
wmv so it may not be far off).
