subject: continuing emmsions info

Most of you will recall the emmisions testing discussion from a little while
back, this month the 1995 GMC 2500 Van, with 4.3L v6 at work got its hiney
probed...
If you recall my rant about screwed up emmisions limits, check out these
 limits!

 1995 GMC 3/4ton van, 4.3L v6.

       40kph idle
HCppm 108 200
CO% .6 1
NOppm 1775 n/a

Okay, for comparison;

 1989 Grand Marquis, 302cid (5.0L) v8

   40kph
HC 68
CO .38
NO 751

Okay, whats wrong with this picture? Lessee, a newer smaller engine which
by propaganda is supposed to burn cleaner and more efficiently has
astronomically higher limits than an older v8!

Just how do they come up with these limits!? I thought older and bigger got
easier standards. Not the other way around. Something stinks and it
ain't the exhaust.

Oh, they're tightening the limits 11% Jan 1 2003 across the board. So,
barely able to pass v8's might fail, but higher polluting smaller engines
still pass. mumble. grumble.stupid.f'ing.stick.up.their...

Alex.
Just when I think I am rant free...
