It's the derogatory way it was used: "skiffy"
And sort of the same way that people who live in the area don't call San
Francisco "Frisco"
[There are a lot of ex-Bay Areans here in this corner of Texas. One from
Los Gatos was very "concerned" about people talking about
"Frisco" until
she realized that it was Frisco, Texas, not California..... ho ho ho]
