| subject: | Re: 10 crazy PC case mods |
From: mike Those EM requirements are still there, the "radiated signals" were radio waves. The emission specs were imposed by the FCC because the PCs were emitting so much radio-frequency noise that they were starting to interfere with TV and radio broadcasting signals in the homes. (note that the emission limits for office-use computers were not as strict as those for the home) Back in the 386 days, there was the onslaught of super cheap no-name white box computers. They were the worst so far as radio interference went.. If you look on the back of a computer nowadays, you'll still see FCC compliance markings. /m On Fri, 01 Jun 2007 21:02:42 -0400, "John Beamish" wrote: >I remember back in the 386 days that there was a serious issue with EM >radiation and, to keep within guidelines/standards the cases *had* to be >made of metal and the openings for heat radiation, etc., had to be >carefully positioned so that they didn't let out too much radiation.
