subject: New Fuel

While tripping merrily through the mail, Gordon Keeton was overheard
GK> Here in California we have just changed to a new type of fuel
GK> that is said to run cleaner. On my first tank of this fuel in my
GK> 62 Chevy II I starting having trouble. I am wondering if more have
GK> had this problem with the fuel or it was just chance that the problem
GK> happen then. It acted like the carb. was running out of fuel. I
GK> remember in my high school auto shop the teacher telling us that the
GK> fuel filter on Chevy carb would let gas pass but not water. If this
GK> is so, does the new fuel act like water and will not pass through
GK> the filter. The fuel does not smell and yuck taste like gasoline
GK> any more. It smells sweet and has one of the worse tast. I sifened
GK> some fuel for my lawn mower the otherday. I will go the the gas
 GK> station next time.
Sounds like you're experienceing a partial "vapor lock" because of the
alcohol in the fuel.
Check out the thread about "reformulated fuel" and "gasohol" that's been
going on here the last week or so, this is EXACTLY what we've been talking
about.
Before I get jumped on for being "off topic", what it boils down to is
that in many parts of the country it is now virtually impossible to drive
your "collector" car, because you can't buy fuel for it.
Don
... If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?
