To anyone who's interested in knowing if anyone is doing anything with
MSGED now that John Dennis has stopped supporting it, after turning the
whole lot over to the public domain (THANKS JOHN!!!), David Begley and I
are working on it at the moment, fixing bugs and making enhancements. I'm
only interested in 32-bit OS/2, and I think he is too, and if you want what
we (I) have done so far, you can FREQ MSQHACK2.ZIP from 3:711/934. Don't
expect that filename to be there for more than a couple of weeks, as we may
have organized a proper release archive in that time.

However, if someone else is working on MSGED enhancement already, perhaps
we could hand over our code changes to that person, or vice-versa. So if
anyone's out there, speak up please, as there's no point in duplicating
effort. MSQHACK2.ZIP will give you a 32-bit OS/2 executable compiled with
Watcom C++ 10.0b, and with the source code required for you to recompile it
(it also compiles under Borland C++ 1.5 and CSET++/2 2.0).

If you are interested in the progress, David has expressed a desire to
discuss it in the PUBLIC_DOMAIN echo area, rather than MSGED_ECHO, in case
people get the wrong impression that we are the new full-time MSGED support
personnel - neither of us is making any such undertaking at this stage, but
we can probably fix genuine bugs (ie not major enhancements) without too
much difficulty. The big thing for me is that it now supports message
areas >10,000 messages/area. From looking at the code, there will be
another barrier at 32,767. When I have that many messages/area I might go
and fix that too, but I'm only up to about 11,000 personally!

Once again, many thanks go to John for making MSGED Public Domain (explicit
notice). BFN.

Paul
