One of the regional chambers of commerce here offers twice-a-month 
networking social hours; they get together at a local member 
restaurant (rotating) for breakfast or after-work munchies.  The 
formal program involves a three minute address by the CofC brass, 
then two minutes each for a representative of each business to tell 
their colleagues who they are and what they do with which to whom, 
and then everyone gets back to socializing for a while.  They set up 
promo freebie tables, etc, and there are trivial "bragging rights" 
type prizes for the brightest, loudest, most memorable, etc. 
presentation, with a special for the Most Business Cards Given Out 
(on the honor system, of course)

They call these "Shameless Self-Promotion Social Settings" and 
they're just a hoot.  I've covered three or four; the editor for that 
zone is sort of slow and the head of the CoC is a persistent woman.  
She'd be overbearing and annoying if she weren't so genuinely 
friendly and warm and likable....
