I know, it's nuts! My last HP printer was $69 or so, the pair of ink
cartridges added up to about $49. The printer died fairly early on too,
probably never should have saved the $20 by buying the cartridges.

It's been about a year now without one, not much printing needed, but I do
miss having one, so will probably pick another one up just prior to wanting
to print hard copy of the tax returns in April. Probably not an HP this
time, he said as long-time (the original $500 DJ 500 was my first) HP
buyer.
