Hi, Quinn.

Par for the course.

How can you be a "real" writer if such fecal matter doesn't affect
you? We write -- in part -- to be evocative, but how can you invoke
in others what you yourself don't feel?

Well, yeah, but at some level it must be much less trivial than
appears prima facie.

No, no, no! You've got that all bassackwards. You didn't draw a
line in the sand, you build a sand castle, and some cretin came along
and gave it a kick. Naturally you feel frustrated at the ruination
of a labor of love. And you certainly did not invite that cretin to
ruin it except implicitly by having created a work he obviously does
not have the capacity to create himself. Of course you could have
saved yourself the anguish by not having created it in the first
place, but you are not responsible for the petulant angers of the
hypersensitive and the snivelers. You are responsible only for the
content of your work. Not for their reaction to it.
