| subject: | RE: [writing2] My Experience With POD |
Barbara said: "This is what I've always felt about POD or subsidy publishing in general. Even if you are a born marketer, there is such built-in resistance from distributors to handling the books that it is an almost futile up-hill battle to get sales." With most POD companies nowadays, the distributors have no problem shipping AFTER an order is made. Without shelf-space, however, sales are low. Self-help seems to not have this built-in nastiness, from what I've heard. People seem more willing to take a chance on a sight-unseen self-help book that they just don't want to take on fiction. That the novel was selected as required reading, and then the publisher doesn't seem able to work out an agreeable distribution arrangement to get it to the students on time ... that's my current road block .. and it really has me both frustrated and pissed off. Two of three POD novels were selected for such arrangements to date. I've more or less toasted my chances with my last three novels in terms of regular publishers. They won't want my novels now, because I decided to try an experiment. Who wants a previously published novel, even if it only sold 20 copies? Nobody. What a waste. I have to reconsider my strategies. This may or may not include just saying "Tehellwithit" and just focusing on other things than writing fiction. -- Quinn Tyler Jackson http://members.shaw.ca/qjackson/ http://members.shaw.ca/jacksonsolutions/ --- Rachel's Little NET2FIDO Gate v 0.9.9.8 Alpha* Origin: Rachel's Experimental Echo Gate (1:135/907.17) SEEN-BY: 24/903 120/544 123/500 135/907 461/640 633/260 262 267 270 285 SEEN-BY: 774/605 2432/200 @PATH: 135/907 123/500 774/605 633/260 285 |
