The Vulcanization of rubber was discovered because the scientist was taking
his work home with him and his wife totally ran out of patience with him
making nasty smells in her kitchen and ruining her good pots and threw his
rubber at him. Some fell into a pot in which she was making sulfur of
molasses, and lost it's stickiness. All he had to do after that point was
narrow down which of the things in the pot cured the rubber.
