What direction did you think I was going in?  I guess that particular image
allowed me to make a reference to a twenty-four year old story, and the
theme about the one-way, suicide mission was a part of the last stages of
that story.

Not being a father, that line might grab someone who is in another way.  To
me, it's a reminder that a starship commander who I have written a lot of
stories about and put him in a lot of situations was once a kid, just like
you and I were.
