The power of the printed word has a very strong effect. Most people don't
realize that pre-printed contracts are still open to negotiation. The rules of
construction give least weight to pre-printed material. Then comes
typewritten overwriting, and the material with strongest weight is handwriting. If
there's any ambiguity it is construed against the drafter of the ambiguous
material, since they were the ones who had the best chance of saying what they meant.
