Hello Mike. 14 Sep 03 22:39, you wrote to me: MM> FTP to bbs.war-ensemble.com, using your login and password, and MM> download ensemble.qwk. I tried that and it wouldn't connect. I also tried anonymous. That didn't connect either. Telnet does work but the specified protocals aren't part of normal telnet operations. For it to work properly one would require either zmodem, xmodem or ymodem. I could compile them but then that would only work for me. I sort of doubt an average user would bother. I will try it if you would rather I did but I honestly can't see that helping in the grand scheme of things. Personally I'd like to see a Linux BBS demonstrate the true power that Linux has to offer. Just my opinion though. MM> it will take a bit of time to create the MM> packet, before it sends, but you'll get it. when done, ftp in using MM> your login and password, then upload the ensemble.rep :) It's easier MM> that way :) I agree. Now how do I get the ftp client to connect? I even tried putting the information in my $HOME/.netrc but no go. I am open to suggestions and will go the distance. A direction might help though as there are many directions to choose from. MM> Once you set your preferences on the BBS itself, it will create your MM> qwk packet whenver you try downloading it via ftp. I did that from the main menu. I even jumped through the hoops to tag the echoes I thought might fun. That menu needs work methinks but I managed to figure it out. Anyhow it said there was a QWK package there for me, over 3 megs too! Then it gave me the choice of zmodem, xmodem or ymodem. No ftp option that I saw. So I logged off and tried a straight ftp client. No connect. Perhaps the wrong port? Also I was wondering about the username. Maybe I have that wrong? If you want I will compile lrzsz. I don't see how that will win over any users though seeing that it isn't an option open to Windows users. If the object of this exersize is to bring them over then this is going to have to work for whatever they are using else they're history. Someone needs to save them from MSN! :-) Maurice --- GoldED+/LNX 1.1.4.7* Origin: Pointy Stick Society XV (1:261/38.9) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
