Hi Lori,

Heck, I have the whole car :)

Yep, With 20 miles of me I have a 1/4 mile dragstrip (LACR) and a road racing
track (Willow Springs). If I go 40 miles, I have a circle track that runs
most everything in one direction, and El Mirage dry lake, for Lakesters (top
speed only cars) in the other.
NHRA Winternationals have been held in Pomona (about 100 miles by road, maybe
40 as a crow flies) for the last thrity or more years. Outside Bakersfield
(100 miles) in Shafter they have a nice little strip that has the March meet
that was "THE" place during the years when the NHRA banned nitro. Since they
closed Ontario about twenty years ago we have not had a "super-oval" in the
state, but the city of Long Beach does have a real "road-race" with Indy type
cars now I believe, althought they had Formula One cars in the late 70's.
Although a lot of the urban tracks have shut down (Lions, Irwindale, San
Fernando, OCIR, Ascot, Ontario, Riverside, and a couple others... kist for
Los Angeles area only), mainly due to land prices and noise compliants from
"newer" neighbors, there is still a lot of racing out here.
