Yes, that was right... you needed to rename whichever of the different
ones applied to your setup to "bwave.exe".  I didn't remember that that
was what we had done until after we were talking before... I got curious
as to what mine was named and went looking... all I found was the
bwave.exe in the right directory... and it was the exact same date and
size as the right one in the zip file listing...   So, yes, it needs
to be renamed to be used.  :)   Good call.  

From your string of messages it appears that you went through the same
bit of trepidation when doing the setup and taking off the "training
wheels" (dale's fix), that I did... but with the same good results.. :) 
In my case, it was a bit scary even with the wizard standing at my
shoulder, assuring me that it was going to work just fine...   Which,
of course, it did...
