Then that totally throws the wrench into the works, as I'm not
even sure how to approach that.  I mean, if I assume such a position
(which probably is true anyway), how should I write then?

I mean, if they are smarter, then I wouldn't know how to write
to their level of 'smartness'.  Perhaps I'm being a bit nitpicky
or facetious, but I find it's true.  Just like I know a bit
about chemistry, but I certainly wouldn't be able to write
to the level of a real chemist.
