This sort of thing has happened in the past. In Spain in the 15th
century, all of the Jews (and Muslims) were exiled, or worse. The vital
period of Spanish development soon came to an end. Within a hundred
years, Spain was humilated by the English. When free Indian gold ran
out, they became a helpless hulk until the later part of the 20th
century when they once again opened themselves up to new ideas and
modern practices. Now they are doing nicely.
Luis the 14th decided that France would be better off without those
vile, obnoxious Protestants and exiled them all in 1686. They took
their energy and industrious to England, America, the Netherlands, and
Prussia. Those places were pulling ahead within a century. A large
percentage of the Prussian officer Corps in the Franco-Prussian war of
1870 had French names. They were French Protestants from families with
very long memories.
Do you see a pattern? Anyone can fit in and drift along. Being a
full time misfit in society takes large steel balls.
