++> Floating city: @ Popular Mechanics Feb. 1998
In keeping with the idea that philosophy might be effected by
how we live, and your interest in synthetic cities, there is
an article in Pop Mechanics this month (5 pages/pictures)on
the "Freedom", a floating city 1 mile long, two football fields
wide and 25 stories high and able to sustain a permanent
population of 50,000 (richy-ish) people. It would hug the coast
following a permanent sun. They are presently searching for a
company to build it. As you had similar ideas, I thought this
might help in seeing the problems and expense of such an
equivalent for animal/plant environmentalism......
Also same magazine makes brief mention of firing currents
through the metal electrodes of a single organic molecule
sandwich. As it could lead to radical downsizing of transistors,
If workable, billions of transistors could be placed on a
single chip which would be "grown" as physical connectors could
not be attached. .
I could but wonder: ??? IF ??? a thinking network could be
produced to think..., which of our favorite philosophers would
our Spockish logic prefer???
