Many of the multi-lingual people I know do that.  It's very common at my work 
to hear French being spoken and they suddenly drop to English and then back to 
French again.  I know native Spanish, German, and Danish speakers that do that 
too.

From what I've gathered over the years, that just seems to be a very common 
thing to do.
