4K monitors aren't about cramming more text in at unreadable sizes. They
are about using higher dpi, i.e. the text size stays about the same at
your normal viewing distance, but it's made up of more pixels, so looks
smoother.
It's pretty straightforward to change the text sizes on various Linux
desktops, I'm using the Mate desktop on a Pi3 with a 32 Full HD TV in
the bedroom, with the desktop font size increased to 14pt make it
readable in bed, and the default browser scale set to 175%.
