DM> Hi Jim, thanks for the list. I've got it printed and will try finding
DM> the info. Unfortuantely, reading is a problem for me as I've suffered
DM> retinal damage to both eyes. (Reading for more than a couple of hours
DM> is a guaranteed headache. :<)
Check with your college and see what they might be able to suggest. I know
the college I attend _does_ have _some_ provisions for sight-impaired
students
but I don't know what all is involved. (For example, I have seen ads looking
for volunteers to read textbooks onto audio tape.)
Ironic story. My Dad used to be in the Merchant Marine and whilst at sea had
a lot of spare time on his hands. He bought a machine and transcribed books
into Braille. A few years before he passed away he lost his sight and had to
read by using books transcribed into Braille by a new generation of
volunteers.
DM> I've been taking classes at a local college on Native American
DM> Heritage and Spirituality, but the insturctor is Tsilagi, and his wife
DM> is Delaware, so they know little of the Northwest culture.
I don't know how big your college is, but I'd check the Anthropology section
of the library.
DM> I brought up the idea to him as a possible project for a class paper
DM> to have the students (many caucasian) to research the native peoples
DM> of the place where the Creator put them, to learn about their native
DM> birth heritage.
That's a good idea. What is unfortunate is that most institutions (colleges,
libraries, etc.) tend to focus on _local_ peoples, not distant. For example,
I'd be more apt to find information on Northwest peoples than, say, the
Seminoles.
Oh, and that wouldn't work real well for me. I was born in Southwestern
China. Very few people have even _heard_ of the Lisu and Lahu peoples.
DM> Once again, thanks for the book list, I really appreciate it. I was
DM> just hopeful of getting a museum or organization name to contact.
DM> This was much more than that.
You're welcome. And if you have any questions, holler. Oh, and don't forget
to check with your Libraries about InterLibrary Loan (ILL). Even if they
don't have a particular book, some other library might.
Jim
