subject: Optima problems

Further to a previous message I posted, I'm unhappy to report that, having
taken the 26.4Kbps ceiling off my Optima and (I think) told my modem to be as
pessimistic as possible about line conditions (via S108=3), it still seems
that throughput is far worse when an initial CONNECT is established at
26.4Kbps - in other words, worse than the previous setup when I'd establish a
ceiling 26.4Kbps CONNECT (~2250 cps vs. ~3000 cps). This is mainly with USR
Courier v.Everythings. The problems reported previously with Zooms, where the
Optima seems to want to frequently connect at 300 bps, still continue.
This makes less and less sense.
Yikes.
