BG> Thanks for your assessment of the Internet echos. Yes, one of the
BG> moderated newsgroups would be where we would probably end up over
BG> there, but the perspective here as well as there would be somewhat
BG> unique. While we occasionally get to talk about high end stuff here, I
BG> consider AUDIO a little more user oriented than a specific group type
I would tend to agree. rec...high-end isn't for the general
population, and rec...opinion has way too much noise to be
useful, so I think there is room for a rec.audio.realists.
:)
But as everyone has noted, minimizing the s/n ratio is of
prime importance.
BG> would be the niche that we could fill there on the internet. I'm now
BG> looking into getting listed as a rec. newsgroup and mailing lists as
BG> the two viable options currently.
So what do you want to do with the user base of AUDIO?
Maintain the closeness of the relatively small group,
or open it up to everyone under the sun? If you're
interested in really opening it up, newsgroups are
easier, especially for the occasional user like myself.
I normally don't read rec.audio.* or AUDIO unless I'm
or someone I know is in the market for equipment.
Then again, looking at the lists I'm already on, they
tend to stay on topic much better.
Pending any magical solutions for ensuring quality
content on a newsgroup and considering the traffic of
AUDIO, I would vote for a list more than anything else.
BTW, how long have you been running AUDIO? I remember
reading it in 1988 while in college...all that talk
about Adcom amps...Thiel loudspeakers...
Good Luck!
Steve
