I have 20/10 vision but an odd twist: I have esotrophia which means my inner
eye muscles are too short so I am technically cross-eyed when my eyes are
relaxed. However, after going for decades without correction, I taught myself
how to straighten my sight, if you will. The side effect are terrible
headaches and constant fatigue. I now wear glasses when driving that have
strong prisms which change the focal point of light for my eyes so I can relax
them and not have to squint or just be in pain. A side effect is the bright
"halo" effect of prisms so I have to wear tinted glasses during the day and at
night, all bright sources of light have halos around them.
The second problem is more mundane: age-related presbyopia. My eye doctor
said "welcome to your fourties" ... he wasn't kidding. Everything has to be
at arm's length now for me to read unless I have reading glasses around. I
don't need strong ones: +1.25 to +1.75 depending on what I'm doing. But I
have two pairs of prescription reading glasses with me at work and a few
laying around at home.
I get my glasses through Zenni Optical (zenni.com). My reading glasses are
$15/pair and my driving glasses are $70 and up depending on tints, coverings,
et cetera. My driving glasses are $400+ a pair at different optical houses
the last time I price-checked.
It's how I can survive working in IT these days. :D
Later,
Sean
... I'd rather deal with a God-loving person than a God-fearing one.
