You're not wrong.  I also disabled the keyboard repeat rate in BIOS at the
same time, but still can't see how that would make a difference.  Trouble
is, now that it's running perfectly, I'm rather loath to risk fucking
things up by changing my BIOS settings again.

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind, but now that all is well again, I'll
save the extra insurance premium until next year, or when I feel like
buying myself a PPC (if ever).
