Now you struck a topic close to my heart. :-)
Michael Caine is one of my favorite actors but it's difficult to watch
all of
his films (by his own admission, he's made a lot of trash and has a
problem
saying no to film offers).
You have a point: Caine isn't maucho and many of his films, including
Alfie,
have him struggling against his own identity or personal problems.
"Blame it on Rio" was such a film. His Harry Palmer spy series was a
parody of James Bond and Secret Agent glamour. But even so, he
did have a down-to-earth masculinity that represented the struggle
of the common man in such life situations. It made his films and his
characters believable but not unlikeable.
About your claim that his films had a pro-life slant. Here's a quote
from a movie review:
"He sees the foetus of the child he helped create in a bucket in his
kitchen,
after Denholm Elliott performs a backyard abortion on one of Alfie's
girlfriends.
Alfie breaks down, then comes to reflect on his actions, concluding
he has committed a crime: "'You know what you done?', I says to myself.
'You murdered him'."
That's pro-choice?

There's a lot to like. The 50's along with, this may surprise you, the
80's generated a lot of music that has had staying power and
spread across the world. Whether I was in Switzerland or Ukraine,
I could close my eyes in a cafe and hear such music from these
periods.
The harsh, negative, and sappy music of the 70's and grunge period of
the 90's has been unmemoriable and this is reflected in their
airtime on the radio even here. Lately, even if I do hit the radio
dial, I'm lucky to hit on any "modern" music.

visiting family. :-)
My wife loves Elvis films despite the fact that they aren't really
challenging
plotwise. :-)
For someone who you prefer to put in quotes, my "wife" sure does
get a lot of attention from you.
