I have briefly researched this. They all work fine and dandy. The key is he
propellant. Whether 3-10% OC or CN content is irrelevant if the can goes bad
in 2-3 months or doesn't shot far enough. Of all things I found that the
propellant for US postal workers, who have carried dog repplent for years was
the best. I have a can that is 10 years old, and it still sprays a solid
spray. However, pepper spray over the counter purchased last year of the
civilian type failed in 10-12 months.
