From my own experience, there are some bbs softwares that do NOT have
any good, easy or reliable way to reset pointers for downloading message
packets.  Doc's Place is using Wildcat, which IS one of the decent ones
for resetting pointers, either individually or using the .PTR file.  If
a whole packet is trashed, extracting the .ptr file from either that
packet if possible (sometimes ZIPFIX will fix things enough to retrieve
that out of the packet), or from the previous packet.
