From the descriptions given in various episodes and the Trek Encyclopedia
the transporter appears to be breaking a person down much farther than
their constituent molecules. There is talk of "energy" in some
cases and in others being converted to a matter stream which is phased or
dematerialized matter. (Whatever the hell that is.)
The point being that doing that to someone isn't likely to be a healthy experience.

As I said in an earlier post, the transporter is a piece of Trek
"magic" and in fact it would have been better for the Trek shows
to never go into how it works. But they did and so here we are.
For me the question is can what we see of the transporter and its function
be given an explanation that doesn't violate Quantum Mechanics and avoids
all this duplication business?

If the transporter, with it's explanation as given from episodes and the
like were to face a "Pulaski goes nuts" event I think the Trek
universe would be rent assunder with the implications.
Is it worth deconstructing Trek to do it? No. But how the device has been
depicted in a number of episodes is a major problem both from the
perspective of the duplication question and more so (at least for me) from
the perspective of Quantum Mechanics.
