I'm definitely with Garry on as little Q as possible... but then I have a
Douwd, so maybe I shouldn't talk. But he's only "semi-phenominal and
nearly-cosmic." (there's my sorta obscure reference for the day).

I think I view Magna Roma as most likely a Preserver-transplant with
non-Earthlike geography. But after seeing "Parallels" (TNG DVDs
yay!) last night, I could accept some kind of quantum anomaly that
deposited a duplicate Earth in our reality.

If you want to see a take on this that combines nearly every possibility
that's been suggested and roles it into one big mess of a plot, read
"Preserver" by Shatner and the Reeves-Stevenses. It turns the
Preservers into the Vorlons-Plus (with enhanced Monolith flavor!) and makes
the Mirror Universe the way things would be without their interference.
Worlds like Miri's Planet, Omega IV, and Magna Roma are test sites --
almost like Allyn's Xerox theory. Duplicates of Vulcan, Andor and Qo'noS
are mentioned.

It's interesting and actually not written badly, imho, but it is a vastly
different vision of Trek than anything I had ever seen before. Even though
I like it, I can't reconcile it with the rest of what I know about Trek.

But it's definitely food for thought, and about a hundred interesting
stories could be spun off of it.

Joe, when I get back, I would love to talk with you about your take on Magna Roma.

Tim
